Learners took part in a special Parliament ceremony and discovered how they can make their voices heard.
Learners at Pondhu Primary School enjoyed a very special day as they learnt all about democracy, leadership and how people's voices can help make a difference.
The school welcomed local MP Noah Law, Mayor of St Austell Councillor Ethan Stephens and Cornwall Councillor James Mustoe to take part in a special Opening of Parliament ceremony, marking the start of Pondhu's School Parliament for the year.
There was also excitement when the school received a letter from Buckingham Palace. Learners had invited King Charles III to attend the ceremony and, although he was unable to come, the Palace sent a personal message thanking the school for its kind invitation.
During the ceremony, learners who had been elected to the School Parliament officially took up their roles as ministers. They learnt about how democracy works, why voting is important and how people can work together to make positive changes in their communities.
The visitors enjoyed meeting the learners and were impressed by their enthusiasm, confidence and thoughtful ideas.
Headteacher Rachel Clift said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for our learners to learn about democracy in a real and meaningful way. Meeting local leaders helped bring their learning to life and showed them how they can make a difference in their own community."
The event was a memorable experience for everyone involved and helped learners develop a better understanding of leadership, teamwork and citizenship. It also highlighted Pondhu's commitment to helping children grow into confident young people who are ready to play an active role in the world around them.
