Eco-learning at Pondhu

Welcome to the Eco page. Eco Club meets every Tuesday after school. Throughout the year we will be targeting issues that affect us, our school, the wider community and the world we live in. We will be covering topics such as waste, energy, biodiversity, water, etc. Please log in regularly to our Eco page to find out about the campaigns we are working on. Thank you.

UNCRC Article 29: Education must develop every child's personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child's respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.
At Pondhu, we are proud of our eco-work. We understand that it is our responsibility to look after the environment and to consider the impact of our actions.
The Eco-team is pro-active in helping the whole school develop their knowledge of sustainability and eco-issues.
Switch Off Fortnight 2017
We are currently taking part in Switch Off Fortnight which runs from 20th November - 1st December. Eco Club have led a whole school assembly to inform everyone about this and we are trying to save energy by switching off appliances and lights when not in use. Each class has got light monitors who switch off the lights each time the class leaves their classroom. The class that saves the most energy will win a certificate.
Nature Garden Rejuvenation
Last term Eco Club decided that they wanted to improve our nature garden. We did some research about what we could grow and we then asked for help from parents/carers. We came to school on a Saturday and did some digging and weeding to prepare our nature garden for planting. Everyone worked really hard and after planting some seeds we managed to grow radishes and potatoes! We were awarded Second Place in the Community Education Awards for our hard work!
Recycling
At Pondhu Primary School we encourage recycling. We recycle fruit waste as every classroom has a compost bin. We also recycle paper and plastic via our green classroom bins. In the Junior corridor we have collection points for used ink cartridges and batteries, of which we welcome any donations.
