Thank you to everyone who came to see our play 'Penguin Pete'. We hope you enjoyed our singing. We have had our Christmas class party and watched a show to celebrate Christmas at Pondhu.
We wish you a very merry Christmas from Year 1.
In Year 1 we have looked at materials in science. We have labelled objects in the classroom to see what things are made of.
In the first half of the Autumn Term, we have been thinking about 'Ourselves.' In Science, we investigated our five senses and played games to explore each one. Following on from this, we did a senses walk during Trailblazing and record what we could see, hear, smell, touch and taste.
Thinking carefully about all of the things we can see.
What can you see in our Nature Garden?

Which part of our tongues do we use to taste different foods?

We love learning Makaton in Year 1. It helps us to communicate with everyone in our class. So far this year, we have recapped all of the signs we learnt in Reception and have learnt a few new ones, too. Can you remember how to sign family, friend, field and playground?
We have been learning the story of the first Christmas. We have been focusing on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. We even did an assembly to celebrate our hard work.
We have enjoyed lots of playful learning time during the first half of the Autumn Term. We have been talking lots about our right to a healthy lifestyle and good healthcare when we are poorly. We decided to turn our first role-play area into a hospital!

We have really been enjoying our Maths learning. We have been thinking more about numbers to ten and creating number bonds using the 'part, part, whole' method. We love doing Maths in lots of practical ways and are looking forward to using our new Maths Boxes for the rest of the year.
